The organization is also working to bridge the social divide that separates the privileged from the underprivileged. The objective is to uplift people to help them achieve their own goals. In order to realize this, the PSO CSR Trust has been generously supporting sustainable social development through continued philanthropic investment in the fields of education, healthcare, community development, environment conservation, and disaster relief.
The education sector faces some serious challenges that require participation from all quarters. There are currently estimated 45 million boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 16 who are not in school. The proportion of out-of-school children (OOSC) increases as the level of education rises so that by the higher-secondary level almost 85% are not in school.
These alarming statistics require sustainable investment from both the government and private sector. The corporate sector also contributes heavily in to the sector. As a responsible corporate citizen PSO's commitment to education is to help in ensuring access to education and to improve academic standards. The PSO CSR Trust extended significant support by funding various organizations nationwide.
The organization continues to partner with leading institutions such as the Institute of Business Administration, the Lahore University of Management Sciences, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan, The Citizens Foundation, Family Education Services Foundation, Community Based Education Society Dolomutch Chitral, Zindagi Trust, and Cadet College Larkana among others. Contributions by the organization has benefited students across age groups and education levels. By investing in the education of future generations, PSO is playing a role in helping the country build a better tomorrow.
Pakistan's health care delivery system which includes both state and non-state; and profit and not for profit service provisions. The country's health sector is also marked by urban-rural disparities in healthcare delivery and an imbalance in the health workforce, with insufficient health managers, nurses, paramedics and skilled birth attendants in the peripheral areas.
To play its part in developing this sector the PSO CSR Trust also aims to improve access and affordability of healthcare for all Pakistanis. PSO CSR Trust focuses on numerous areas such as improving primary care, expanding access to healthcare in rural areas, reducing treatment and medical costs for the poor and investing in the research and treatment of non-main stream illnesses that affect thousands of people every year.
In previous years, the PSO CSR Trust provided assistance to numerous hospitals and medical organizations such as the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT), Indus Hospital, Fatima Kidney Centre, Vision Foundation, Jinnah Hospital, Kiran Patients Welfare Society, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, and Children Cancer Foundation along with other organizations. PSO truly believes in investing in the lives of people through provision of better health facilities for a prosperous and healthy Pakistan.
PSO CSR Trust focuses on contributing to local communities in positive ways helping to facilitate growth, competitiveness, and opportunities for all. To accomplish this, PSO CSR Trust concentrates on economically disadvantaged villages, senior citizen homes, orphanages, and schools for the physically and mentally challenged. There are estimated 3.28 million people with disabilities in Pakistan according to the most recent available data, including 1.37 million women. This would make them 2.49% of the population.
There are 531 special schools in Pakistan and about 200 non-governmental organizations and disabled people's organizations offering education to people with disabilities. The PSO CSR Trust works by partnering with organizations that work directly to improve these facilities.
The PSO CSR Trust has donated generously to promote livelihood and helped in community development. The organization believes that by aiding people from all walks of life and supporting them, regardless of their current socio-economic situation PSO CSR Trust continues to supports a large group of people that are vulnerable members of society.
PSO CSR Trust has also played a significant role in mitigating the impact of natural disasters.
